The Children’s House is a unique feature of the ‘prepared environment’ that every object in the classroom has a specific place and purpose.
The classroom is a child-sized world, with chairs, tables and shelves, in appropriate size.
Our classrooms are large, bright, and beautifully arranged, designed for the child’s comfort, security and enjoyment. The activities are arranged on low shelving units within reach of even the smallest children. Children may work, uninterrupted, for long periods of time at tables or on small mats on the floor where they are naturally comfortable.
The pace is unhurried and although the curriculum is structured, each child moves through it at his or her own pace. The children are free to choose activities which capture their interest, and new activities are introduced as each child is ready for them.
There is also group time with stories, music, songs and finger-plays. The children are encouraged to start expressing themselves during this time.
The Pre -Montessori class offers for children from 2 years old. It is a period characterized by the need to explore everything, move, and develop large motor coordination and strength. We believe at this age there is huge expansion into language. They develop a capacity to create symbols, images, and concepts and become aware of him/herself as a separate and independent person.
The Pre -Montessori class has five main areas at the toddler level:
- Practical life and daily living skills
- Sense awareness
- Language development
- Mathematic development
- Art and music
The Pre -Montessori class’s program takes advantage of the toddler’s natural drive to act independently. We help them learn to care for themselves including washing hands, putting on jackets, putting on shoes, and feeding themselves. In this language-rich environment, teacher support and guides toddlers as they explore order and disorder, and refine their emerging motor skills. Outdoor play is part of the daily routine.
Toddler exercises and activities recognize that children learn by doing. Classroom materials are always accessible, attractive, safe, and geared for a child’s success. Activities are changed regularly in respond to children’s need for variety and challenge as they grow and learn. The safe, loving, gentle atmosphere puts children and parents at ease and makes for a trusting, spontaneous transition to the Montessori class 1 (age 3 -4 years old).
Montessori 1 class is for children above 3 years
The purpose of this class is to offer young children an experience away from home that allows them to grow at their own pace. The teachers are highly nurturing and they are particularly sensitive to the needs of 3 - 4 years old. They help the children with separation, socialization, cooperation, and independence – all important developmental tasks of this age group.
The children are given time and opportunity to explore language, music, movement, art, practical life activities, and fine and gross motor activities that meet their individual developmental needs. They practice skills such as buttoning, tying and zipping, caring for themselves and their environment.
Children in the Sunshine class do not need to be toilet-trained. However, the teachers work closely with parents to help a child begin this next developmental step.
Montessori class 2 is specially prepared environments for children over four years old to 6 years old.
The classrooms are large and bright and as with all authentic Montessori environments, everything is designed around the child’s needs.
Materials are displayed on low shelves and children are guided and encouraged to work independently. The environment, materials and the directress aim to provide a unique learning environment that helps foster concentration, independence, a sense of order and self-discipline.
The multi-age grouping is also an essential component of Montessori education. Younger children are interested in learning and emulating the older children. Older children reinforce what they have learned by giving lessons to younger children and acting as role models. The result is a deep sense of caring and respect for each other.
Our Arabic Class is a typical Montessori classroom with Montessori materials carefully designed and arranged to stimulate the children's interest and maximize their growth. The students learn Arabic through working with the Montessori materials, singing songs and reading stories all in Arabic. Each child has the freedom to make their own choices and work freely with materials which interest and stimulates them, in the Arabic language, as they are introduced to letters, numbers, shapes and colours. Preschool age children are developing the language centers in their brains and this is the perfect time to introduce a second language to them and what a better way to learn a second language than in a prepared Montessori environment.
